INSPIRE is a Call to Action to Create a Movement of Change For Peace; young people who not only learn from the past but also choose to engage courageously with the present so that the future can be different. Using the centenary of the ending of WWI, we want to call all our young people to take a stand for peace by encouraging them to apply their learning in their schools and communities.
These ‘Remembrance for Peace’ resources consist of PSHE lesson plans, activities and assemblies that support whole school SMSC delivery. The materials explore issues of peace and identity with a focus on WWI to help students and schools commemorate the centenary of The Armistice and ‘remember for peace’.
The resources have been written as stand-alone assemblies and lessons from Early Years to Key Stage 4 but could be adapted for use across numerous lessons and tutorials. Each plan also contains suggested additional activities, curriculum and resource links. They equally support the Four Capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence and Global Citizenship in the Welsh Baccalaureate.
Centenary of the Ending of WWI
In focusing on 100 years since the ending of World War I, there are rich opportunities to engage children and young people in dialogue to explore their attitudes, values and beliefs as part of PSHE. There are opportunities to explore the impact of WWI and embed themes of peace throughout the curriculum that build knowledge, develop evaluative and analytic skills as well as broaden students’ understanding of conflict, war and learning from the past. We hope this pack gives ideas that complement your existing PSHE provision and offers relevant creative opportunities to engage your students.
